Dental Bridges in Scottsdale Arizona

Dental Bridges

Replace missing teeth with beautiful dental bridges.

When you have all of your teeth, and they are healthy, and in proper alignment, it keeps both your teeth and jawbones healthy.

If you lose a tooth, though, the adjacent and opposing teeth can shift erratically which can end up compromising the health of other teeth, gums and your jawbones if you do not restore the missing tooth.

Dental bridges are an excellent restorative option.

Restoring a Tooth with a Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is typically made up of three parts, though it can consist of more components if you have more than one missing tooth.

The three parts of a bridge are the pontic and two abutments. The pontic is the artificial ceramic tooth that replaces the missing tooth. The abutments are crowns that fit over the teeth on either side of the space left by the missing tooth. The three parts are fused to create a single solid unit – the bridge.

The Importance of Restoring a Missing Tooth

When you are missing a tooth, the adjacent teeth will shift to fill the space. The result:

  • More pressure placed on other teeth, which can lead to cracks and fractures
  • Crooked mal-aligned teeth
  • Periodontal (“gum”) defects
  • Misalignment of both the teeth and jaw that can cause a painful jaw disorder (TMJ disorder)

The Benefits of Dental Bridges from AccuCare Dental in Scottsdale

The dentists AccuCare Dental can restore missing teeth in a variety of ways:

Bridges are a great option because they are fixed, as opposed to a removable partial denture, which means they provide far more stability and comfort. Compared to dental implants, bridges take much less time to complete because there is no need to undergo the surgery to place the implant.

However, sometimes when there are no available natural teeth, a bridge can actually be placed over implants.

What to Expect at Your Dental Bridge Appointment

The dentist at AccuCare Dental in Scottsdale will reduce the height and circumference of the abutment teeth a1mm (about a 32nd of an inch) so that the bridge can fit over them. Afterward, we will take an impression of the prepared teeth and send it to a dental laboratory. Our team make a temporary bridge out of a durable tooth-colored acrylic material that you will wear until your permanent bridge is delivered a few weeks later.

The dental lab usually fabricates dental bridges out of zirconia – an almost unbreakable white material. If necessary, dental bridges are also fabricated out of gold, titanium, ceramics and porcelain. Once completed, you will come back to the office, and we will carefully remove your temporary bridge and try in the permanent one. We will check the margins (where the bridge fits around the abutment teeth) to make sure there are no gaps, helping to prevent microleakage and decay.
